Spring is a busy time in the Orchard, starting with Wassailing at the start of January, when children from West Jesmond School woke the trees from their slumber in the company of our Green Man.

The trees received their winter pruning to keep them in shape and encourage fruiting, and we held a course for people who want to graft their own fruit trees and acquire unusual varieties.

We’ve also helped a new community orchard to set up in Forest Hall, and taken part in tending the trees at Newcastle University’s Dere Street Orchard in North Northumberland.

Finally it’s sad to see the chapels in St. Andrew’s Cemetery fall in to disrepair. We would love to find a new use for them. If you have any ideas or proposals, please get in touch.
